Contributing towards Non-Proliferation and Security through Effective Export Management of Sensitive Goods and Technologies

Commodity Identification Training and Outreach/ Awareness Raising, Faisalabad (Nov-Dec 2023)

A team of Strategic Export Control Division (SECDIV) conducted a two-day Commodity Identification Training (CIT) at Customs House, Dry Port, Faisalabad on 29-30 November 2023. The training was aimed at capacity building of customs officials in identification and interdiction of dual use items and technologies. In addition, various technical aspects of strategic trade controls were discussed including red flag indicators and implementation of the UNSC sanctions related to proliferation financing.

 

Separately, on 1st December, the SECDIV team visited the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF) and apprised the academic community about Strategic Export Controls with a specific focus on Intangible Technology Transfers and the implementation of Internal Compliance Program (ICP) guidelines. The session garnered significant attention, with more than 150 participants, including faculty members and a diverse student body.

 

Subsequently, the SECDIV team visited Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry to raise awareness about Pakistan’s international obligations for Strategic Trade Controls. The industry representatives were briefed on the Pakistan’s national regulatory framework for better implementation of Export Control on Goods, Technologies, Material and Equipment related to Nuclear and Biological Weapons and their Delivery Systems Act – 2004 (SECA-2004).
