A team from the Strategic Export Control Division (SECDIV) conducted a two-day Commodity Identification Training (CIT) at Customs House, Peshawar on 5-6 June 2024. The training aimed at enhancing the capacity of customs officials in identifying and interdicting dual-use goods and technologies. Additionally, the session covered various technical aspects of strategic trade controls, including red flag indicators and the implementation of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) sanctions related to proliferation financing.
Separately, on 7 June, the SECDIV team visited the University of Peshawar and apprised the academic community about Strategic Export Control laws, with a special focus on Intangible Technology Transfers and the implementation of Internal Compliance Program (ICP) guidelines at academic institutions. The session was attended by faculty members and students from various fields including natural sciences and management sciences.
Afterwards, to raise awareness about Pakistan’s international obligations for Strategic Trade Controls within the industry, the SECDIV team visited the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), Peshawar. Industry representatives were briefed on the national regulatory framework for implementing the Export Control on Goods, Technologies, Material, and Equipment related to Nuclear and Biological Weapons and their Delivery Systems Act – 2004 (SECA-2004). The President of SCCI appreciated the SECDIV team's visit and highlighted the need for continued outreach to the industry.
