Contributing towards Non-Proliferation and Security through Effective Export Management of Sensitive Goods and Technologies

Two Days Training course on WMD Interdiction

A two-day WMD Interdiction Training Course was organized by SECDIV on 11-12 July 2023 at Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad. The training aimed at enhancing the capacity of field officers of Law Enforcement Agencies to interdict the dual-use items as listed in National Control Lists. It acquainted the participants with the identification of controlled materials, commodities, technologies and components used in WMD development, deployment & delivery and techniques involved in interdiction of these goods. Lectures, demonstration and discussions were held and the participants also experienced hands-on familiarization with the dummies of dual-use goods & equipment.

 

The training workshop was attended by more than 15 participants from different departments including Pakistan Customs, Anti-Narcotic Force, Airport Security Force, Pakistan Maritime Security Agency, Pakistan Rangers and Frontier Corps.

 

During his opening remarks, DG SECDIV highlighted the importance of enforcement measures for better implementation of national export control laws and policies. He remarked that Pakistan remains fully committed to implement export control on goods, technologies, material and equipment related to nuclear and biological weapons and their delivery systems act (SECA-2004). Pakistan remains fully cognizant of its obligations pertaining to non-proliferation of WMDs, he added.

 

The training event was part of SECDIV’s Annual Outreach and Capacity Building Programme. Such events reflect Pakistan's commitment for non-proliferation and efforts for effective implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution-1540.
